Rare Chinese Art to be exhibited at ADNEC

Publication Date: 13 Dec 2013

The expo, which will showcase decorative contemporary Chinese ceramics, will be the first to bring Chinese art to the region. Under the theme ‘Chinese Culture, Art Exchange and Transmission in the Gulf’, the event will go a long way to filling the void for collectible Chinese art items in the robust art market in the Middle East.

The event is organised jointly by MIE Events and JT Events and is supported by the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce, China Chamber of International Commerce and Shanghai International Culture Association.

David Weng from MIE Events, one of the organizers of Art China, said: “All 30 of the artists set to attend this event are well known and highly regarded in China. Many of them participate in high-level art events all over the world, and many are just recently back from the France Art Fair, where European collectors were intrigued and excited by the Chinese collections.

“We hope that this event can build a bridge between Chinese and Emirati artists,” he added.

Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Chief Commercial Officer at ADNEC said: “We are delighted to be welcoming an event of this importance to ADNEC. Our events are a reflection of the development and growth of the city, and as Abu Dhabi’s status as an international destination and key market grows, the events we host and the people we welcome will support that development.”

“The UAE and China share some common ground in terms of our rich cultural tapestries and dynamic art industries. This intimate event will go some way to harmonising the two cultures and in doing so, will welcome a new audience of art lovers to Abu Dhabi and ADNEC.”

More than 400 MENA-based collectors are expected to attend and participate in Art China’s silent auction and Art Awards. Notable Chinese artists due to participate include Chen Tangen, a ceramic arts and craft master from Zhejiang Province whose traditional works are based on bold innovation and a unique artistic style, and Du Dingchang who has been committed to pursuing the essence of Chinese art through modern concepts for 40 years.
