Publication Date: 21 Mar 2014

Saeed Al Shamisi, Human Resources Director, ADNEC, said: “We are pushing ahead with our ambitious Emiratisation policies that aim to train and qualify the national workforce in all areas of exhibitions, conferences and business tourism. ADNEC’s strategy is centered around giving UAE nationals a greater role in the advancement and leadership of the company. We, therefore, aim to attract young Emiratis to join our workforce by following the relevant recruitment procedures, and helping them build a promising career with us through offering a variety of training opportunities.”

“ADNEC’s annual training plan seeks to provide best in class training opportunities to both current employees as well as new joiners. The content of the training programmes is periodically reviewed to match the specific requirements of each department within ADNEC. As part of our commitment to create an environment that empowers and builds the capacity of our workforce, we provide one of the most attractive career opportunities and remuneration packages within the industry for UAE Nationals.”

Having launched in 2010, a total of 23 trainees have taken part in the programme, with a further 10 set to participate during the course of 2014. The programme offers local employees an opportunity to learn and develop, that can then be transferred to Abu Dhabi’s growing business tourism industry.

Upon the successful completion of the training, trainees return to take up key administrative, operational and executive positions in the various departments at ADNEC to play a more participatory role in ADNEC’s growth and the development of the events and exhibition industry in Abu Dhabi.

Led by senior executives at ExCeL London, the programme provides participants with valuable exposure to the international exhibition industry through assignments, in-field training and sector specific exhibition and event management tasks. The three Emirati ADNEC employees will be joined by one Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) employee.

Expressing their appreciation and gratitude to ADNEC for providing them with the unique training opportunity at one of the biggest and most important exhibition venues in the UK, the trainees added that the valuable learning acquired at ExCeL London would definitely impact their future career path.

Nouf Ali, Manager of Operations at International Defence Exhibition (IDEX), said she considered the ExCeL London training as the most important step in her professional life as it opened up windows of opportunities to learn, develop and explore international business and management strategies. Nouf Ali, a Business Administration graduate from the American University in Dubai, joined ADNEC in July 2011 as an event planner. Her ability to gain a quick understanding of the industry and exceptional performance resulted in her appointment as Director of Operations at IDEX.

Amal Saleh Al Ameri, Security Support Officer at ADNEC, said since joining ADNEC she had been looking forward to the training opportunity after learning about it from one of her colleagues who also benefited from the programme in acquiring international expertise and a subsequent leadership role at ADNEC. Amal Al Ameri, who is currently pursuing her MBS at the American University, joined ADNEC in January 2009, and has since undertaken various tasks involving event registration and organiser support as well as security registration and exhibitor support.

Sanaa Mohammed, Business Support Coordinator, Sales Department at ADNEC, said her eight-week training at ExCeL London enabled her to explore best practices in managing and supporting businesses, attracting events and boosting sales that could be applied in her work in Abu Dhabi. Sanaa Mohammed, who holds a Higher Diploma in Human Resource Management, joined ADNEC in July 2011. Since then, she has demonstrated a high level of efficiency and competence in performing her tasks and responsibilities.

ADNEC has also partnered with Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority to provide training opportunity to one of its female employees at ExCeL London as part of ADNEC’s annual training programme. Sarah Abdullah Al Asli,  Head of Conferences and Exhibitions Unit, was offered the opportunity to take a closer look at the latest trends in hosting major events given the fact that TCA Abu Dhabi is also involved in organising key international events.
