ADNEC Launches Internal Excellence Award

Publication Date: 23 Sep 2014

The award comes in line with the directives of His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, to launch excellence award programmes at each Abu Dhabi government entity to augment the Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance (ADAEP) and contribute to the achievement of its goals.

The award aims to achieve performance excellence across ADNEC’s departments through improving work mechanisms in all sectors, and promoting a culture of quality and transparency to make it an essential component of ADNEC’s working environment.

It will also contribute to promoting a competitive spirit among various departments and divisions while developing capacities of employees on par with global best practices. This will allow employees to offer quality services to the public and ADNEC’s partners in the private and public sectors.

His Excellency Ali Saeed Bin Harmal, Managing Director of ADNEC, said: “The launch of our internal excellence award comes as a continuation of ADNEC’s success stories, such as getting the ISO certification, receiving the Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award, participating in the Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance, and the other international awards that ADNEC has won within the last few years.”

Stressing on the keenness of ADNEC’s senior management to give this award the attention it deserves, Bin Harmal urged all the departments and employees to participate in the various award categories and workshops, which will have a positive impact on ADNEC’s development.

Al Daba Saif Al Darmaki, Team Manager of ADNEC’s Internal Excellence Award, has further said that various departments at ADNEC have been instructed to mobilise internal teams including steering committees and award administration committees. The committees were established in April 2014 and currently hold regular weekly meetings. In addition, an action plan has been developed covering various phases of the award implementation including award preparation and development, awareness and publicity and award management.

Al Darmaki has added that the internal excellence award is divided into three main categories: excellent management, excellent project and team, and excellent employee. Independent jury members will be invited from outside the company to assess the first and second award categories, while the last one will be assessed inside ADNEC.

He pointed out that selection criteria and award categories were circulated across various departments and finalized by June 2014.

An award team, made up of ADNEC’s Emirati employees and hand-picked from various departments, is mandated with establishing the ADNEC internal excellence award.

The excellence award programme also involves the development of appropriate award criteria in line with the requirements of both ADNEC and ADAEP. In addition to outlining the terms and conditions for the award participation, ADNEC is additionally working on a mechanism to evaluate entries in each category and select assessment teams and a jury while ensuring transparency and impartiality in the evaluation process and final selection of winners.

Winners of the internal excellence award will be announced and honoured at ADNEC’s annual ceremony to be held at the end of the year. The winners of excellent employee category will be nominated for the ADAEP award.
