Publication Date: 30 May 2006

The Steering Committee for MECOM, the Middle East Communications exhibition and conference scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi from April 22 to 25, 2007, was announced today (Tuesday, April 4, 2006) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), the venue of the event.

The MECOM Steering Committee members include H.E. Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority and ADNEC, Simon Horgan, Chief Executive Officer, ADNEC, and Geoff Dickinson, Managing Partner of MECOM, among others.

MECOM, held under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi & Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, is set to become a calendar event for the telecommunications industry, and is expected to play a pivotal role in furthering regional telecom advancement.

H.E. Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan said, “There is greater awareness in the Arab world today about the importance of world-class telecom infrastructure and its impact on the overall economy. This has resulted in stepped up investments in the regional telecom industry, turning it into one of the most dynamic sectors in the Middle East. MECOM will serve to further boost this fast-growing sector by converging leading industry players on a common platform.”

MECOM will be three events rolled into one major telecom showcase, and in addition to the four-day exhibition will include the MECOM Summit and MECOM Congress. Heads of regional regulatory authorities and telecoms operators will be invited to attend the prestigious MECOM Summit while the MECOM Congress will be a two-day conference covering all the latest developments, issues, products and opportunities in the communications.

Simon Horgan said, “MECOM presents organizations from across the telecom industry a forum to showcase products and services and learn about latest market trends. It is appropriate that an event of this stature is being held in Abu Dhabi, given its excellent communication infrastructure as also the fact that the city hosts the headquarters of leading telecoms organizations.”

Geoff Dickinson said, “In addition to being a comprehensive trade show, MECOM doubles up as an excellent interactive forum where industry professionals could discuss and debate key industry issues and arrive at decisions that could determine the future course of the regional telecommunications sector. We are confident that MECOM will grow to become the flagship event for the region’s telecommunications sector.”
