ADNEC environmental strategy reduces exhibition waste in the UAE

Publication Date: 2 Sep 2008

The strategy which was launched to coincide with the highly successful World Future Energy Summit, which was held at ADNEC in January, has seen the implementation of various environmental initiatives. This has included the appointment of a dedicated waste-co-ordinator and the introduction of recycling bins and cardboard collection points around the venue.

According to statistics released by Dulsco, the UAE's leading Waste Management & Services Provider, ADNEC has managed to save: 900 trees, 1.6 million litres of water, 295,000 kilowatts of energy, 88,500 litres of oil and 153 cubic yards of landfill space since beginning its programme of waste reduction.  This reduction has come at a time when the venue has been busier than ever staging numerous high profile events and welcoming hundreds of thousands of people through its doors.

ADNEC Group CEO, Simon Horgan, said:

"Being the most modern exhibition centre in the world, isn't just about having state-of-the art facilities and architecture, it's also about recognising our responsibility to influence behaviour in a positive way. Our environmental strategy has been implemented in response to the environmental challenges faced by the international exhibition industry and we hope that other venues in the region recognise the moral and economic sense of this approach."

Phase 2 of ADNEC's exhibition facilities will be completed later this month to create the Gulf's largest exhibition centre; ADNEC's environmental programme will immediately be implemented across the entire venue.
